Applying for Your Key West Marriage License
To be married in Florida, you must get your marriage license in the state of Florida. You can obtain the license in any city in Florida;
Same sex marriage is legal in Florida;
If you live outside of Florida, there is no waiting period. If you live in Florida, there is a 3 day waiting period after you obtain the marriage license unless you have taken the Florida Pre-marital Education Course;
A marriage license cost $86.00. The exception is if both parties are Florida residents, have both provided proof of a premarital class cost is then $61.00;
The license can easily be obtained at the Key West Courthouse, 500 Whithead Street, between 8:30am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday (except holidays). The courthouse phone number is (305) 292.3458. It only takes a few minutes to obtain a license. – You will be asked to produce a photo I.D. to receive the license. No other identification is required. You will not be asked to produce a Social Security card, birth certificate or a divorce decree if previously married. You will only need a photo I.D. If you have been previously married you will need to know the date you last marriage officially ended, but no paperwork is required;
A valid marriage license must be presented to the Wedding Officiant at the time of the wedding. The officiate will notarize the license, have it recorded at the Courthouse, and you’ll receive your certified copy from the Courthouse in approximately 3 weeks;
Witnesses to the ceremony are not required in the State of Florida.
